Untie/Open the bag slightly so the roots can breathe; the goal is to have the roots not be too wet or dry. Roots should be firm and have a visible eye or bud where new growth will initiate.
Store in a cool, dark place (not cooler than 35 degrees or warmer than 50 degrees fahrenheit) until ready to plant; extreme hot and cold can damage the roots.
Check the roots weekly until ready to plant
Roots can be direct planted into the landscape; make sure to research the environments they require to thrive (soil type, sun/shade, moisture needs).
Roots can be planted into containers; make sure to plant them into a topsoil/peat/sand mix for best results.
Plant shallow
Plant in soil types that the plant needs to succeed
Plant in the sunlight requirements recommended
Plant in areas of soil moisture content that the plant needs to thrive
Do not fertilize
You should only have to irrigate during dry seasons the first year after planting
Mark/label your plantings so you don't forget! Some of the roots are early season only (ephemerals) and will die back when it gets warm.
Dormant roots can look like they aren't viable - don't be alarmed, they can and will come back!
